“I can always knock you out,” she said, only half-joking. If it came down to it, she would try, on the chance it might help him. She stood, holding onto his hand for a moment longer before letting go and pulling out her phone. Holding it against her chest, the smile disappered. “I’ll make sure you have something to do then I’ll come back.”
Without missing a beat, he replied, “Do it–I mean it. Dunno how long ‘twill last but if they come for us when I’m asleep, do ye promise to leave me? I know how much it strained ye to carry us both. You will leave me."
